LNG OPPONENTS

(Liquified Natural Gas Project)

to the proposed LNG project in

Southeastern New Brunswick.

A recent study revealed that LNG tankers passing through

"the environmentally sensitive and navigationally

challenged marine and coastal areas of the sovereign

Canadian waters of Head Harbour Passage posed "risks

to the region of Southwest New Brunswick and its

inhabitants which the Government of Canada,

New Brunswick and area residents declare

to be unacceptable.

Some Issues:

Who you are, your residency, and your relationship

to the Passamaquoddy Area.

What your specific concerns are:

30 - 100% loss of income to a billion dollar economy that depends on resource-based industries such as fishing, aquaculture, tourism, etc.

No benefits to Canada while security costs will rise.

This could include Canadian Coast Guard costs as well as increased medical, fire, and safety costs.

Risks to public safety from potential fires and lack of

adequate fire and safety groups.

Development of industrial clusters with

accompanying pollution.

Loss of freedom of movement between our communities

as the result of security lock-downs that will close

ferries and certain roads during passage

of the LNG tankers.

It is possible that there might be

armed gunboats in our Bay.

Loss of Canadian security and fear of terrorist attacks.

Sovereignty concerns.

Loss of important native sacred sites (US side)

and displacement of activities at important

international parks,  designated historic sites

and designated heritage sites.

Increased threats to Atlantic right Whales and

other listed species.

Specific environmental and habitat threats

to marine life.

Request for an early resolution to this challenge

by restatement of the 1976 position of the

Government of Canada refusing passage of

oil tankers and other large vessels through

Head Harbour Passage or such.
